Back-to-School computer checklist:
Printer: Avoid long lines at the computer labs when you just want to print your paper (free with purchase of qualifying Mac).
iPod: Use it to record lectures (with optional voice recorder), keep track of your class schedule, listen to music or watch videos at the gym, and catch up on podcasts, including iTunes U (free with purchase of qualifying Mac).
AppleCare: Three years of Apple-certified repairs, both parts and labor (extended two years from the one-year limited warranty included with your system purchase).
Extra storage: Protect your files from a system crash by buying an external hard drive.

Ethernet cable: ResNet hookups require a RJ45 patch cable.
Printer cable: Most printers don't include a USB cable.
Surge protector: A standard power strip may not protect you from power surges.
Laptop lock: Protect your valuable investment.

Office suite: Everybody has to write papers! Make sure to pick up an office suite, which includes 3 or 4 programs for the price of 2.
Security software: There are a lot of scams on the internet, so protect your identity and privacy.
• Software for your major: Contact your department to see if they recommend any other products, such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, or AutoCAD.

Wireless card: Take advantage of SFSU's wireless network when you are away from your room.
Router: If you're living off campus, you could set up your own wireless network.

Flash drive: Carry your data in your pocket anywhere.
Blank CD-Rs/DVD-Rs: Backup your work!
Extra printer cartridges and paper: Don't run out of supplies!
Laptop case: Carry it in style!
Headphones: Let your roomate sleep!
